The Advanced Research Workshop will be articulated across 5 days, each targeting a specific topic, thus focusing on a different specific horizontal issue of interest for the theme of environmental security:
- DAY 1: The importance of harmonization of environmental data access and processing
- DAY 2: The role of GI-based technologies for a sustainable development and protection of the environment
- DAY 3: Advanced Interactive Visualization and Analysis for environmental security
- DAY 4: International, regional and national legal frameworks and constraints
- DAY 5: Political, economical and social factors in the protection of the environment
Each day the session will be opened by a member of the organizing committee who will introduce the theme of the day and will set out the challenges to be addressed. Experts from different fields will focus on a vertical open issue of specific interest as well as on horizontal analysis and current trends drawn from their professional or scientific experiences. During the first part of each day a number of frontal talks will take place. Each invited speakers will present his/her position during a 30 min presentations followed by a 15 min Q&A time. Some talks, for their relevance will be allowed longer time. Participants should stay for the full duration of the workshop.
At the end of each day a special section will be devoted to a wider discussions. These will be organized as roundtables in order to fully support exchange of ideas and open discussions with the clear target to pin-point critical issues, to define a priority list to be addressed by the research agenda as well as to create a list of recommendations and guidelines. Roundtables are expected to promote intense discussions and exchange of ideas and at this stage members of the industry and public authorities will be expected to act as valuators of emerging guidelines and approaches. The event is expected to ignite collaborations among the participants and to highlight current industrial trends, technological requirements and, last but not least, possible emerging market interests.
