PNAB - 3D visualization and update of geographical information of GIS data owned by Parco Naturale Adamello Brenta

Research Area: 3D Geovisualisation, Geovisual Analytics and LBS
Status: Finished
Project leaders: Raffaele de Amicis
Proposed start date: 2008-00-00 Proposed end date: 2008-00-00
Description:

The project was commissioned by local authority for Parco Naturale Adamello Brenta (www.pnab.it) and it has delivered an interactive authoring system that is used by the experts at the park to manage their geospatial repositories, to define the graphical layout of their data and to expose them to the public through a 3D client developed as part of the project. Both clients (public and for authoring) and server component are compliant with emerging standards in the geospatial field (inc. OGC, ISO etc.). The project emerged from a precise requirement emerging from the local natural park. This required a client-server software infrastructure to be used by technicians, engineers, administrator to access the vast geographical dataset which belogned their park.

For this the project has brought to the development of a set of classes capable to pre-process and compress the data available from the park according to an optimized data structure which is then sent via the network and then used by the client application. The project has further developed an authoring system that can be used by the operators to upload new content, define its visibility, arrange its logical structure in layer as well as their mapping style from within the 3D scene through the use of a visual user-friendly interface. The styling is automatically encoded as SLD (Styled Layer Descriptor) and stored centrally within the repository and used to render the relevant data to all users.

Graphitech has delivered the full client-server infrastructure to access the data of the urban plan of the Provincia of Trento in real-time through the use of geobrowsers. The client and server solution are currently installed at the planning department of Province and used by several operators and civil servants.
