Proposed start date: 2008-00-00 Proposed end date: 2008-00-00
Description:

The project Graphitech has developed both a standalone application and a web-based 3D tool capable to ensure interactive access of high resolution data on several Alpine Glaciers within the territory of the Autonomous Province of Trento.
Furthermore the project developed a web-based client-server solution whose architecture follows the three-tiers SOA approach where the 3D client stands at the application level, a number of middleware component form the middleware level accessing a variety of repository that form the data level.

The combination of complex SOA-based infrastructures with the use of last generation 3D graphics technology has proved that is possible to provide operators with very interactive systems capable of accessing, in an extremely user-friendly and technology neutral way, very high resolution dataset.

A Java-based 3D client, deployed as Java WebStart JOGL-enabled (Java binding for OpenGL) application, has been specifically developed to interact with the service infrastructure. This choice makes it very lightweight and portable as it can run on a variety of operating systems. This can be started from a webpage accessible either from the Internet or within the intranet of a public administration.
